A pilot study conducted by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has identified etidronate, a drug available outside the United States, as a possible treatment for arterial calcification due to deficiency of CD73.

Arterial calcification due to deficiency of CD73 (ACDC) is a rare, painful genetic condition that causes excessive calcium buildup in the arteries.
