New guidelines from the American Gastroenterological Association call for the use of biologics or the immunomodulator tofacitinib as standard therapy for induction of remission in adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.
The guidelines, presented at the 2019 Digestive Disease Week, allow that patients “may reasonably choose biologic monotherapy” over combination treatment if their disease is relatively mild, but the preferred front-line approach is a biologic or tofacitinib
