Prime Therapeutics, the fourth largest pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) in the United States, and leading national pharmacy chain Walgreens announced on Aug. 29 a strategic alliance to combine their central specialty and mail-order pharmacy businesses. As part of the agreement, Prime’s 22 million members will have preferred access to Walgreens’ more than 8,000 pharmacies beginning Jan. 1, 2017.
