Telehealth services and prescriptions for opioid use disorder (OUD) reduce patients’ risk for fatal drug overdoses, according to new research published in JAMA Psychiatry (2023 Mar 29. doi:10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2023.0310). Telehealth allows physicians and other clinicians to prescribe buprenorphine to manage OUD without an in-person examination, a flexibility that generally did not exist prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
