USP <797> Prep Time Update Triggers Concern

Immediate-use medications at issue

The final USP General Chapter <797> released in June contains few surprises for anyone who has paid attention to the sterile compounding document’s revisions and comment periods over the past few years. But one change jumps out: It increases the time allowed to administer immediate-use preparations (from one hour to four hours), meaning those compounded using aseptic techniques but outside a classified cleanroom or segregated compounding area.
