As the specialty market grows, so does stakeholder demand for data that measure how well patients adhere to complex specialty treatments and achieve results. A complementary range of technology-based solutions from MHA SPS can serve as a launching point for pharmacy-initiated patient engagement strategies that support therapy adherence, persistence, contract compliance and more.

One such solution is MHA SPS Clinical Therapy Management™ (CTM), a patient management software application that tracks patient outcomes and interventions, measures adherence and persistence, and provides patient and treatment insights. The application offers a host of tools for reporting essential clinical and dispensing metrics to meet the complex contracting needs of specialty pharmacy medications and other contracting requirements with payors and accreditation and referral sources. The CTM application has modules covering eight disease state categories with more than 100 indications.

“Our CTM provides a clinical support pathway to help specialty pharmacies engage with and clinically manage their patients,” said Stacey Ness, PharmD, CSP, MSCS, AAHIVP, RPh, the company’s senior director of specialty clinical services. “Data show that the implementation of our CTM can significantly improve patient adherence and positively impact clinical outcomes.”

In one recently published study on adherence, prescription fills for a particular therapeutic category increased by 35% during the six months post-CTM implementation, compared with the six months before implementation, revealing a positive and sustained effect on patient adherence. Another published study on clinical outcomes documented a fivefold increase in the number of patients who were infection-free after implementation of CTM, compared with the time period before implementation.

MHA SPS continues to partner with organizations that provide novel technology platforms that enable patient engagement. A recent example is the MHA-VUCA Health partnership, which gives member pharmacies access to MedsOnCue, an innovative platform that provides a library of prescription-specific video briefings through a unique digital patient experience with key information about the safe and effective use of medications.

To improve operational efficiency at the pharmacy, MHAuthorizeRx™, powered by CoverMyMeds®, offers a secure, easy-to-use web-based prior authorization tool that enables pharmacies to collaborate with prescribing physicians to submit prior authorizations for any drug to nearly all health plans. MHAuthorizeRx creates an automated, paperless experience for the pharmacy and ensures that prescriptions are filled with greater efficiency and with the most up-to-date information from health plans.

Investing in First-of-a-Kind Reporting Tools

Having access to clinical patient metrics can help pharmacies meet reporting requirements and better understand what’s happening with their patients. MHA SPS invests in unique and efficient reporting tools that give pharmacies the metrics necessary to make informed decisions about current and future management of patients.

For example, MHAOptics™, a new benchmarking program, offers clinical insights and business intelligence that can help pharmacies implement strategies to improve patient adherence and work toward implementation of best practices. This first-of-a-kind program allows pharmacy and other specialty stakeholders to analyze multiple metrics, aggregate patient data and communicate the information to stakeholders, such as payors, manufacturers, physicians and accrediting bodies. The program is currently available as IGOptics™ for users of the Immune Globulin module of CTM.

In addition, a recently formed partnership with Evaluate Ltd., a life science and market intelligence and forecasting leader, provides streamlined access to key pharmaceutical pipeline and business intelligence to help specialty pharmacies stay informed and prepare for the future drug therapy landscape.
